Over the past 13 years, under the auspices of Team New York Aquatics (TNYA), New York swimmers have raised more than $284,000 for AIDS-related service organizations through the annual One Hour Swim. We are delighted to announce that ASC has been selected as the recipient for the monies to be raised in this year's One Hour Swim, coming up on January 31, 2004.
During the One Hour Swim, swim teams from around New York City join together to "swim for a cause," raising money by gathering sponsorships for each lap they swim in a one-hour time period.
For more information about sponsoring a swimmer or joining in this event, contact the 2004 One Hour Swim 14 at www.tnya.org.
And come join us to cheer the swimmers on as they help to raise funds for AIDS Service Center! The One Hour Swim will take place on Saturday, January 31st at City College of New York (CCNY), Convent Avenue at 137th Street (see www.tnya.org for subway directions). Hourly swims begin at 7:30 a.m. and continue throughout the day. See you there!
On October 28, Cable Positive and the National Association of Minorities in Cable (NAMIC, Inc.) jointly hosted the New York City premiere of "My Life in Verse," a documentary film that profiles the participants in ASC's remarkable creative writing workshop. The screening was held at the Clearview Chelsea Cinema in Manhattan. Directed by first-time filmmaker Marnee Meyer, "My Life in Verse" takes viewers inside the workshop led by award-winning poet Gerry Gomez Pearlberg.
We anticipate another screening of "My Life in Verse" on World AIDS Day 2003 (December 1) at a location to be announced. Stay tuned—details coming soon!
