About the Test:
ASC uses OraQuick Advance Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody test. The OraQuick test collects oral fluid from the mouth to determine if HIV antibodies are present. No needles are used and no blood is drawn to administer the test. All testing is free and completely confidential.
About ASC's Testing Process:
HIV Testing at ASC has three main parts:
The first is the pre-test counseling session. ASC's Counselor addresses emotional needs and concerns, and provides an overview of HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention.
The second part is the OraQuick Advance Rapid HIV-1/2 test.
The third part is the post-test results pick-up and counseling. Results are available within twenty minutes of taking the test. The ASC Counselor will respond to your needs and concerns, discuss risk reduction strategies, and arrange for confirmatory testing, as needed.
If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment with ASC's HIV testing program, please call Juan Tudd, (212) 645-0875 x354 or email juan@ascnyc.org.
